How to Join a Wine Club

This guide walks you through the complete checkout flow for joining a wine club on WineView — from choosing your delivery method to entering payment and becoming a member.

Finding a Club to Join

Browse clubs on WineView (see Finding & Browsing Clubs).
Click on a club listing to view its detail page.
Select a tier if the club offers multiple options (e.g., "Classic — 3 bottles", "Premium — 6 bottles").
Click the Join button to begin the checkout flow.

The Checkout Page

After clicking Join, you land on the checkout page. The page is organized into sections from top to bottom, with a sticky footer pinned to the bottom of the screen at all times.

Step 1: Choose Your Delivery Method (FulfillmentMethodSelector)

If the club offers both shipping and local pickup, a section appears with the heading: "How would you like to receive your wine?"

Two large, tappable option cards are displayed side by side:

Local Pickup — shows a map pin icon. Subtitle: "Pick up at the winery."
Shipping — shows a truck icon. Subtitle: "Delivered to your door."

Click one to select it. The selected card is highlighted with the club's brand color border.

If the club only offers one fulfillment method, this selector is hidden and the method is chosen automatically.

Step 2: Select Your Pickup Location (PickupLocationSelector)

If you chose Local Pickup and the business has multiple locations:

A section appears showing available pickup locations.
Each location shows its name and address.
Click a location to select it. The selected location gets a highlighted border.

If there's only one pickup location, it's automatically selected.

Step 3: Choose Your Shipping Speed (ShippingSpeedSelector)

If you chose Shipping, a section titled "Choose your shipping speed" appears with radio buttons:

Each option shows:
- The speed name (e.g., "Ground", "2-Day", "Overnight")
- The cost info (e.g., "Free", "$12.99 flat rate", "We cover up to $15.00", "Actual cost at fulfillment")
The default speed is pre-selected. Click a different option to change it.

Step 4: Select Your Wines (Bottle Selection Cards)

If the club requires an initial wine selection at sign-up (common for Release Clubs), a section appears:

Heading: "Select at least [N] items" or "Select your items" (depends on club configuration)
If a minimum is required and you haven't met it yet, a red error banner appears: "Please select at least [N] items to continue."
Wine cards are listed, each showing:
- Wine image (or a wine glass icon placeholder)
- Wine name
- Price per bottle (with strikethrough original price and green discounted price if a member discount applies)
- A "Recommended" badge on pre-selected wines
- Quantity controls: − and + buttons with the current count between them
- If the item has a minimum quantity set by the club, the − button won't go below that minimum
If quantities are locked by the club (Exact Set mode), no +/− buttons appear — just the locked quantities.

Step 5: Your Information (UserInformationForm or LoginForm)

If you're not logged in, you'll see one of two forms:

Guest checkout (default):

Fields: Full Name, Email, Phone Number, Date of Birth
If shipping is selected, additional address fields appear: Street Address, Apartment (optional), City, State dropdown, ZIP Code
If your state is not eligible for shipping, a red error appears: "We're sorry, but this club doesn't currently ship to [State]."
At the bottom: "Already have an account? Log in" link — click it to switch to the login form.

Login form:

Email and password fields
Log In button
At the bottom: "Don't have an account? Continue as guest" link to switch back.

If you're already logged in, the personal info section is skipped. Instead:

Step 6: Shipping Address (for logged-in members with shipping)

If you're logged in and chose shipping:

Heading: "Shipping Address"
Your saved addresses appear as selectable cards. Click one to select it.
A + Add New Address option lets you add a new address inline.
If the selected address's state isn't eligible, a red error appears.
A blue "Checking shipping eligibility..." message appears briefly while validation runs.

Step 7: Payment Method (Stripe Card Element)

Heading: "Add your payment method"
If the total is $0 (free membership), a note appears: "A payment method is required in case your membership terms change in the future."
A card input field (powered by Stripe) collects your card number, expiration, CVC, and ZIP.
If there's a card error, a red message appears below the input.

The EnrollmentFooter stays fixed at the bottom of the screen throughout the checkout process.

Desktop Layout

Left side:
- "Total due today" label with the total price in the club's brand color (e.g., $89.00)
- A chevron toggle to expand/collapse the price breakdown (if multiple line items)
- Expanded breakdown shows: Membership fee (per month/quarter), Items, Sign-up fee, Tax lines, Service fee
- Future billing note (for subscription clubs): "Then $XX.XX per month"
- Terms checkbox: "I agree to terms & authorize recurring charges" (subscription clubs) or "I agree to the membership terms" (release clubs)
Right side:
- Join Club button (with a checkmark icon)
- Shows "Processing..." with a spinner while submitting

Mobile Layout

Top row: "Total" label on the left, price on the right, with optional breakdown toggle
Middle: Terms checkbox centered: "I agree to terms & recurring charges" or "I agree to the terms"
Bottom: Full-width button: "Join Club — $XX.XX"
Shows "Processing..." with a spinner while submitting

When Is the Button Enabled?

The Join Club button is enabled only when ALL of these are true:

Payment card is complete
Terms checkbox is checked
Shipping address is selected (if shipping)
Shipping speed is selected (if shipping)
Guest info fields are filled (if guest checkout)
Minimum bottle count is met (if bottle selection required)
Address state is eligible (if shipping)

After Joining

When checkout succeeds:

A success toast appears: "Welcome to the club!" (or "Welcome to the club! Check your email for your temporary password." for guest checkout).
You're redirected to a Join Success page showing:
- Confirmation that you've joined
- Your delivery method
- A link to your new membership or enrollment order
If you checked out as a guest, you're automatically logged in. Check your email for your temporary password to set a permanent one.

Troubleshooting

Problem	What to Do
"Card declined" or payment error	Double-check your card details. Try a different card.
"This club doesn't currently ship to [State]"	Choose a different shipping address in an eligible state, or switch to Local Pickup.
Button stays disabled	Make sure you've filled in all required fields, selected an address, checked the terms box, and met any minimum bottle requirements.
"Please accept the terms to continue"	Check the terms checkbox in the footer.
"Please complete your payment details"	Finish entering your card number, expiration, and CVC.
"Please select at least [N] items"	Add more wines using the + buttons until you meet the minimum.
